Fort Walton Beach, FL: The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island hosted the 5th annual Pelican Plunge on January 1st, 2021. A few hundred people celebrated New Year’s Day with a plunge into the Gulf and were “freezin’ for a reason” as 100% of proceeds support the children of The Emerald Coast Foundation.
Rainy weather and strong surf didn’t prevent the community from celebrating the end of 2020 and plunging into a fresh New Year. Pelican Plungers and spectators warmed up their nerves with free coffee and cocoa at The Boardwalk prior to plunging off their 2020 woes. After a brief from Okaloosa County Beach Safety and a festive costume contest, plunge participants jumped into the 63° water symbolizing a fresh start into 2021.
Directly after, plungers and the dry spectators flocked to The Crab Trap for the Post-Plunge Party to warm up with gumbo, live music, and a raffle. With the Pelican Plunge celebrating its 5th year, it has become the “must attend” New Year’s Day plunge for the Fort Walton Beach and Destin area. Best of all, the community safely came together and raised a total of $5,247 for The Emerald Coast Foundation. After all, IT’S FOR THE KIDS!
The Emerald Coast Foundation is a 100% volunteer-driven organization that is committed to investing in the children of Northwest Florida through 4 local charities: Children in Crisis, Inc. Florida, Eleanor J Johnson Youth Center, The Arc of the Emerald Coast, and All Sports Association.
Year after year the Pelican Plunge is not only an invigorating event that brings the community together on New Year’s Day, but it supports the lives of our most valuable members, the children. For more information about The Emerald Coast Foundation, please visit https://emeraldcoastpokerrun.com/
